Birds Nest

One of the assignments for the beginning 3D art class is that we had to make a bird's nest. My friend Reis made his bird's nest and it was the best in the class. For ideas and craftsmanship, he did a really swell job!

As for mine, It isn't all that grand. A bit hazy for the most part. I don't have all that great of craftsmanship. But my button chain surely made up for it!

Then Priyanka and I had worked on a paper mache-like piece with string and water balloons to make eggs. We had then spray painted them. They came out looking wonderfully!

I'm still trying to take a liking to it. Haha!

  1. Water ballon and string eggs? Is the balloon temporary to give the string form? Do you use glue? However you do it, the eggs are wonderful!

    1. You'd blow up the water balloon with some air (as a warning though, it's very hard! We had my classmate Reis do it for us because swimmers have a certain breathing technique which is very helpful for this situation).

What you'd do is that you'd put the string in some starch and then you'd wrap it around the water balloon accordingly. Give it a day or two to completely dry out the starch and when it fits to your preference, you can take a needle and pop the water balloon which would leave you with the form of the balloon made by the string. You'd take the popped water balloon out through a tiny space, but you have to make sure that you're extra careful with your string! It could break at any period of time if you're not careful.

Also, as another warning, it'll take a while to get the string to stick around the balloon correctly. Making it stay in place is the hardest part especially! Depending on the thickness of the string, it tends to get easier though.

If you don't understand what I was saying, there's a tutorial about how to do this (but in a bigger size) and can be found here: http://ruffledblog.com/diy-string-wedding-chandelier/

you will see that even some birds (like the house finch) make nests that will change your idea of what a messy nest is! yours is quite beautiful!

    1. Thank you! I do enjoy my bird's nest, but personally, I think that the house finch's nest is very pretty. Not only is it resourceful and reusing items that most people take for granted, but it proves the phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure" (even though they are birds)! It's wonderful as to how clever we all are with what we do with what he have!

    1. It's a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for your kind words! I think I'd enjoy the House Finch's nest as much as it'd enjoy mine.
