Halloween Costume!

In case anyone was confused about what the costume I was wearing/made for this Halloween looked like...? Also, this is what I had worn when I was on the livestream this Tuesday!

The skirt was originally made using a wire frame, but while combining the wire and the fabric together, I messed up a whole lot because of a lot of extra little things that you guys don't really need to know about...causing the wire frame to slide around and eventually just come off...breaking it... It's supposed to have more of a dimensional poof and the bottom ends aresupposed to look very bat wing-like but as you can see and from what you already know is that I screwed that one up pwell.

The overall costume & design took almost a week to do. Making and testing out patterns and trying to fix all the little errors and the like after the actual bits have been finished. I guess in the grand scheme of things, even if you look things up, your first time doing something will always be the worst and the hardest...but given the time limit I just kind of gave up and kept going...Better luck next time and at least now I know what NOT to do. ((sucked so bad but that's okay haha wow,,))

The cape and the skirt's fabrics are made out of linen. The skirt is supposed to keep its shape using a wire form (but I screwed that one up as I mentioned above). Extra little details is that the cape uses 3 layers of folded card stock to keep the popped up shape, the white line at the bottom was bias tape, and the bow is some really nice satin ribbon and I am madly in love with it.

Also!! Please note that I did not make the white ruffled shirt or the jacket on top. The shirt is an old thing I had laying around in my wardrobe and the jacket is a borrowed item and because of a lack/limited amount of money (I didn't pay for any of the materials used in this, in case you were going to get upset with me over expenses and all that jazz) I had to work under not only a time limit, but a budget too. Not all the details on this costume are there, but that's alright, I'll find some time in the near future to fix it up sometime soon.

All in all wow this was such a pain in the ass to do why the hell did I do it?? I'm insane that's pmuch why. Oh, try to ignore the dog and the mess of a room that I live in but all in all yes I don't have time and I hope that's obvious...And now I'll be making Reis a bat costume out of fleece so stay tuned for that

Magnetic Words & Poetry

So one day, after I had finished Jazz band, I had found these fools working together to create a poem using some magnetic words.

And this is what they came up with.

And here's mine.

Happy Inktober '14

This is super late and super lazily done (in 5 or 10 minutes...somewhere int hat ballpark) to celebrate Inktober! It's an interesting little thing where artists draw using pens and other ink-y related tools.

If you're interested in knowing who this is, it's Stocking from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt by Gainax.

Eco-dyed Paper

So as it had been mentioned in some previous post, I have been working on eco-dyed papers for a journal that I'll be constructing sometime later in the future.

And honestly, I have no idea what I had filled this paper up with at all.

But here's what came out after I had dyed it in the insides of a pomegranate!

The marks that had been left from the leaves and the can tops/lids are absolutely beautiful.

And the imprints that some of the leaves had left were just unbelievable.

Spinning!! ((For the 100th time))

Hey guys! So today, I'm just going to show off some shots to you that Reis had took of me when I was spinning the wool roving with bamboo that I had shown to you guys in an earlier post. And yes, nothing says perfection like being an ass to myself don't you agree? I mean I keep making posts about this and that over and over and over again...and I guess spinning counts as one of those things lately...oops.

Ignore this photo...it's completely awkward.

But here's the yarn after it had been plied! It's so wonderful!!

Cotton roving

I probably should have posted this one before the last post I made, but here are the close up shots of the cotton roving I had used to spin with before I actually spun it.

It has a lot of really sweet cool tones, so wonderful to look at and the color scheme in general just reminds me of a nice, sweet night sky.

Here it is after I first started to spin with it!

And that's all for now guys! Sorry for the weirdly organized posts, I guess I just have been so busy with everything else that I didn't really realize anything until the very last minute... I'm sorry!

Cotton spinning!

More recently, Bianca had tried out spinning cotton and our wonderful art teacher had lent her this little drop spindle (although you would use it in a little bowl or on a journal of some sort, rather than spinning it in the air (sort of air) as you'd always do using a drop spindle...and she had a fairly hard time. So I kind of wanted to try it out too.

Overall, the cotton roving was painful to deal with. It was troublesome and had a huge tendency to break and spazz, but it's understandable as to why and it was our first time trying, so we should at least get commended for trying...y'know?

But overall, the roving itself was really pretty. The cool colors were just a beauty to look at.

Spinning it was a pain in the ass, no lie there.

But when you look at it the way it is, it makes you feel better about the hardships. It's just...so pretty. I really like how it looks...I just don't know when I'd ever use it....ever.

Daiso DIY Beading Kit

Hey guys! So I haven't actually started this yet, but I just wanted to show you guys what the kit looks like and what the instructions are. So if you're really interested, just follow through the read more.

Hand spun yarns!

I'm not going to add in that much commentary for this post, but here are just some pictures and closeup shots of everything that had been spun so far!

The above is a bamboo mixed roving and the colors are just so incredibly amazing. The single ply that you can see in the left was spun by Kaili and so I had doubled my yarn, followed by Bianca who tripled hers. I'll eventually get around to taking a picture of all three together unless our wonderful art teacher gets to that before I do (which I'm sure is going to be the outcome).

And this wonderful bundle of singles were spun by Bianca. She had won the roving in a giveaway and she was in love with how it looked and how it felt. It came out amazing by the way, in case you couldn't see from above. The yarn is very thick in some places and very thin in others, but in the two different bits she had spun, one turned out being thicker than the other.

As for these, these are just the locks that I had spun a little while back (although I don't know if I had made a post mentioning them yet...I've been all over the place recently!). If you're interested, just follow through the pictures by clicking them and all that jazz.

Also, please check out this wonderful post that my amazing art teacher had put up with closeup shots of the yarns and others that I had made. I'll also be posting up the post about another kind of yarn later though!

Alpaca & kid locks & Spinning yarn

Hey guys! Sorry, I guess I had forgotten to fill up my queue for the past couple of days...so I'll just be posting for today and I'll eventually catch up somehow. But here's one of the things that I more recently got around to doing: spinning locks!

The green wool roving that you see here was a part of the wool roving that I had to dye using the food coloring and I had decided to use it to test out a lock spinning technique that Bianca had shown me.

The locks are from Alpaca and Kid wools (?) and they're just absolutely amazing. Incredibly soft, incredibly wonderful.

These are just shots that Melissa had taken of me spinning on the spinning wheel.

Although what I'm doing here is plying. I had found a single ply silk yarn in the stash that my wonderful art teacher had and had been plying the yarns together.

This yarn has got to be one of my favorites. The colors just flow so wonderfully together and are absolutely amazing.

I guess it kind of makes me think of a magical forest with deer and faeries and all those sweet little things...but I've always been in love with mystical creatures and magic in forests...if you hadn't figured that out from previous works of mine.

Raffia hat making kit

This is just kind of a little thing that I had gotten a little while ago...but I was so interested in it because...why not? My wonderful art teacher was giving away this raffia hat making kit that came with raffia, a styrofoam form to work off of, and a step by step instruction manual.

It's really cool and really interesting...now only if I could find the time to do something with it!
