Yamamoto Yama

Hey guys! So a little while back, our wonderful and hardworking Japanese language teacher Ms. Oyama had successfully brought famous Sumo wrestler Yamamoto Yama to Whitney after years of inviting him and the organization that he had came to our school with. The reason behind why she had been trying to invite them is because each year, our Seventh graders are assigned a project about an aspect of Japanese culture. She thought it would be the best way to shed light and destroy the negative stereotype and the assumptions of what Sumo wrestling is and what a Sumo wrestler has to do.

I had the luxury of taking some photos of Yamamoto Yama and I had found it incredibly interesting. The life and the job of a sumo wrestler is more intense than I had anticipated and thought it would be.

Nearing the end, some of the seventh graders were given the opportunity to interact and attempt to do some of the intense training that Sumo wrestlers are required to do on a daily basis and then Yamamoto Yama would correct their stance and technique. Well, that's where the majority of these shots are from. Also, at the very, very end there was a photo opportunity with Yamamoto Yama but I had the misfortune to not be able to stick around due to my teacher's orders.

If you're interested in seeing some of the other shots I had taken, just follow on through the read more.
